Can You Buy UPS Labels Through the Walmart Buy Shipping API?

Walmart's Buy Shipping API now returns UPS labels, not just FedEx and USPS. What changed, what the label protects, and how to buy them in bulk.

Yes, since late October 2026. Sellers could always pick UPS when buying a label one at a time in Seller Center. What didn't work was the API: any software connected to Walmart could only get FedEx and USPS labels from Buy Shipping. Now UPS comes back through the API too, so Rilk shows it next to your own carrier accounts and buys it in bulk.

The rate isn't the only reason to use it. A Buy Shipping label comes with Walmart's protection, and a label from your own carrier account doesn't.

What does a Walmart Buy Shipping label protect?

Lost packages, your On-Time Delivery rate, and the claim itself. Walmart lists what comes with a Ship with Walmart label:

  • Up to $100 of protection for lost orders (Walmart says conditions apply).
  • Your On-Time Delivery rate is preserved when you ship on time, and you're covered for delivery issues outside your control.
  • Walmart handles the claim and the customer reimbursement.
  • Orders above $100 can add enhanced carrier protection, up to $500 total.

On your own UPS or FedEx account, a lost package is your claim to file with the carrier and your buyer to refund while you wait, and a late delivery counts against your Walmart metrics.

Do Walmart Pro Sellers get cheaper labels?

Yes, on 2-day and 3-day labels. Walmart says sellers in its Rising, Advanced and Pro Seller tiers get Ship with Walmart label discounts, up to 25% off 2-day and 3-day labels. Cheaper on average still isn't cheaper on every order, so compare it against your own accounts order by order.

Why do so many Walmart sellers skip Buy Shipping?

Because UPS through Buy Shipping was Seller Center only: one order at a time, in a different tool from the rest of your carrier rates, since the API didn't return UPS. On a busy day it's faster to buy UPS on your own account and give up the protection. That's exactly what we used to do.

What do you need to buy a UPS label through Buy Shipping?

Your ship node. Walmart only accepts a UPS label through Buy Shipping when the request names the ship node, the Walmart ID of the warehouse the box ships from. Leave it out and Walmart refuses the label with “ShipNode id is mandatory for UPS carrier.” If you're wiring this up yourself, that's the first error you'll hit.

How does it work in Rilk?

Walmart Buy Shipping's UPS, FedEx and USPS rates show on the same screen as your own carrier accounts, filtered to the services that still make Walmart's promised delivery date. Rilk flags the cheapest rate that arrives on time, fills in the ship node, buys labels in bulk, and sends the tracking number back to Walmart. More on Walmart Buy Shipping in Rilk.

In the video, Walmart's UPS Ground came in at $13.50 with signature on an order due Friday. On the next order the seller's own USPS Ground Advantage at $5.95 was the better buy, and Rilk flagged that one instead.
